Value In The Healthcare System: Using Data To Drive A Standard Of Care
by William Dieter
Director of Physical Therapy Clinical Services and the Geriatric Residency
Value-based care necessitates delivery of care that optimizes clinical value. Clinical value is often defined as outcomes/costs where outcomes need to be objectively measured, optimal, and standardized. Therapy providers that demonstrate value to patients, the community, and the healthcare system are integral to the future of value-based care and should be preferred partners of physicians.
A dedicated Quality Assurance Department has the ability to leverage an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system to objectively measure outcomes, drive optimal outcomes, and standardize care. It is essential for referring physicians to understand the varying levels of quality and value offered by rehabilitation providers that are truly dedicated to clinical excellence.
FOX Rehabilitation has defined a standard of care and outcomes using our EHR system. Our internal systems increase accountability and drive high quality care within our older adult population. Quality Indicators (QIs) are being identified via iterative statistical analysis that drives real time understanding of our patient population, clinical approach, outcomes, and costs. This information allows us to be at the forefront of clinically excellent care that is highly valuable to the healthcare system and our physician partners.
