Shadowing

An observation affiliation is defined as a student shadowing a licensed clinician while observing patient care, but performing no direct treatment to a patient. Student observation opportunities are available for both current physical therapy or occupational therapy students and undergraduate students interested in pursuing a Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy, Masters of Occupational Therapy, or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy. In order to be considered, you must apply for our program below:

Clinical Experiences

Since 2016, more than 550 students have registered for FOX clinical student rotations. Students with FOX can expect a robust curriculum designed to develop core clinical competencies and clinical judgement necessary to work with older adults in a home-based outpatient setting. FOX Students are provided access to a designated website rich with tools and materials to make their student experience a successful one.

We have more than 200 PT Clinical Instructors and 175 OT Fieldwork Educators who are dedicated to providing our students with clinical experiences that will challenge them to think critically, appropriately dose exercise interventions, and work collaboratively with other professionals. Our clinical educators are spread diversely throughout our geographical footprint to offer students experiences in both rural and urban settings.

Students interested in completing a clinical experience with FOX are required to contact their University Director of Clinical Education (DCE) / Academic Fieldwork Coordinator (AFC) who will coordinate directly with FOX. For more information, please reach out to clinicalrotation@foxrehab.org. Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to accept students in Physical Therapy Assistant or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant Programs.

Our older adults here in the city have the most amazing backgrounds, interesting jobs…never a dull moment for me in Manhattan.
Julius Franz, PT, DPT

This is the best kind of therapy, because it doesn’t feel like work. We have fun while we do it.
Teri Grote, PT, DPT
With FOX since 2015
Anybody considering working with FOX, would be very lucky. You’re helping people everyday.
Jenelle Tinsman, OT
With FOX since 2015
What I like about FOX is we treat patients one-on-one, which is huge. There are some places where you treat two, three, even four people at a time. This is just amazing!
Patrick Cavanagh, PT, MSPT
With FOX since 2005
They’ve [older adults] experienced true independence, and that was taken from them. Our goal is to help them maximize their independence and regain their full potential and that’s what I love about this. They want to get back.
Brett Herman, OTR/L
