FOX Geriatric Residency in Physical Therapy cordially invites you to attend our capstone presentation “Investigating the Impact of Geriatric Certified Specialist (GCS) Credentialing” by our 2017 residency graduates, Mary Wiseman, PT, DPT, CVT and Nadia Wyrsta, PT, DPT.

A one-hour networking session will follow immediately, where our guests can enjoy food and refreshments along with intelligent conversation with FOX leadership, Dr. Callens, Dr. Wyrsta, and our esteemed panelists.

Additionally, our own Jimmy McKay, PT, DPT of “PT Pintcast,” will host a live recording of “FOXcast PT,” featuring our esteemed panelists! For those unable to attend, the podcast will be posted here on our website.

This will also be a great opportunity for students and practitioners interested in pursuing geriatric specialty certification or residency with FOX to speak with representatives from recruitment about opportunities in their area or region of interest. We are honored to welcome to our review panel these esteemed industry thought leaders:

Rebecca Craik, PT, Ph.D., FAPTA
Dean, College of Health Sciences

Arcadia University
Editor Emerita, Physical Therapy

Dr. Craik is the Dean of the College of Health Sciences at Arcadia University. Prior to being appointed as Dean in 2014, she was the Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy Dr. Craik received her undergraduate training in Biology at Case Western Reserve University, physical therapy training at Duke University, and doctoral training in physiology at the School of Medicine, Temple University. A theme that threads through her research is adaptability whether she is working with the older adult or examining animal models of human disease. She is co-principal investigator for a multi-site randomized control trial designed to compare outcomes of two interventions designed to enhance mobility in the older adult after hip fracture. Dr. Craik is currently Editor Emerita for Physical Therapy. She continues to provide active service to the Foundation for Physical Therapy and active at the National Institutes of Health. She co-chaired an NIH Blue Ribbon Panel on Rehabilitation Research, which facilitated the development of the 2016 NIH Research Plan on Rehabilitation. Members of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) have recognized her contributions to service, leadership and scholarship with the Lucy Blair Service Award, as a Catherine Worthingham Fellow, and with the Mary McMillan Lecture Award.

 

Andrew A. Guccione, PT, DPT, Ph.D., FAPTA
Professor and Chair, Department of Rehabilitation Science

College of Health and Human Services

Dr. Guccione is Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Science at George Mason University. He has served APTA at the district, chapter, section, and national levels, and was also on APTA staff. He edited three editions of Geriatric Physical Therapy, which has also been translated into three languages. He received the APTA’s Mary McMillan Lecture Award in 2010.

 

Timothy L. Kauffman, PT, Ph.D.
Founder of Kauffman Physical Therapy

Dr. Kauffman began his physical therapy career in 1970 as a student at the University of Pennsylvania, and he went on to earn degrees at the Medical College of Virginia and LaSalle University. He has lectured nationally and internationally and has taught at Drexel, Thomas Jefferson, Virginia Commonwealth, and Anton de Kom Universities as well as guest lectures at many physical therapy schools. He has been a long-time member of the Academy of Geriatric Physical Therapy and is a Fellow for APTA and the Gerontological Society of America. Dr. Kauffman was the lead editor for three text books, the most recent of which being A Comprehensive Guide to Geriatric Rehabilitation. He is the Founder of Kauffman Physical Therapy and Adjunct Professor at Columbia University.

 

Carole B. Lewis, PT, DPT, GCS, MPA, Ph.D., FSOAE, FAPTA

Dr. Lewis is well known as a leader and innovator in the area of rehabilitation and optimal aging. She has served as Editor-in-Chief of Topics in Geriatric Rehabilitation for over 30 years. She has received top honors from APTA and The Gerontological Society including APTA’s Mary McMillan Lecture Award in 2016. She currently serves on the Medical Faculty at George Washington University as a full adjunct professor and has authored numerous textbooks on aging.

 

Susan Wainwright, PT, Ph.D.
Professor and Chair, Department of Physical Therapy

Dr. Wainwright is an Associate Professor and Chair in the Department of Physical Therapy at Thomas Jefferson University. She is a qualitative researcher with numerous publications, and national and international presentations on her research interests which include development of expertise, clinical reasoning, educational outcomes, and inter-professional education.

Mary Wiseman, PT, DPT, CVT 

Dr. Wiseman received her doctorate in physical therapy from Stockton University in 2013. She is the most recent graduate of the FOX Geriatric Residency in Physical Therapy and plans to sit for the GCS exam in March 2018.  Both she and Dr. Wyrsta completed a pilot study to identify key objective differences in treatment and outcomes in geriatric clinical specialists versus non-specialists.

 

Nadia Wyrsta, PT, DPT

Dr. Wyrsta received her doctorate in physical therapy from Temple University in 2014. She has performed original research in conducting a systematic review looking at the timing of physical therapy initiation for musculoskeletal disorders. The systematic review was published in the Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy in 2016. She is an active APTA member and is highly interested in federal advocacy and bringing awareness to our profession. Nadia aspires to teach within a DPT program, become a clinical instructor and hold a leadership role within her company.
