My Cause As A Physical Therapist: The Strive For Optimal Function Throughout Aging

Published On 7.10.19

Cause: The desire to be part of something bigger, work for it, and be a champion toward it. The fire in your belly; it’s what gets you out of bed in the morning — your cause. Helping older adults achieve what they once thought impossible through optimal function is our cause.

We asked FOX clinician Vidhi, PT, DPT, “What drives you?” to which she answered, “My cause.”

Vidhi Vora, PT, DPT: Hi my name is Vidhi Vora. I work as a physical therapist with FOX Rehab in the greater Boston area.

For me, I’m driven by cause.

We relate aging to this fear of limitations and negativity. What I absolutely love about FOX is that FOX is trying to disrupt this whole perception that people have about aging. I am able to treat the impairment, but it goes way beyond that since I go into the patients’ homes, observe them in their natural environment, see their families. Roberta, 77: Before I was having a great deal of trouble walking. My balance was really not good at all. Just walking outside was difficult for me, and it was frustrating because I used to walk three miles a day. Just being able to get out and walk again is building up my confidence so then I want to do more. And part of my goal, thanks to Vidhi, is to extend the walk each day so that I can go further and further.

It’s been great. I’m very lucky to have you.

Vidhi: Oh, thank you.

Roberta: So I think we… You know… We’ve created a very nice bond between the two of us, aside from physical therapy.

Vidhi: When I am able to give them the feeling of independence when I’m able to give them the feeling of empowerment, I think it makes me feel the same way. It makes me feel very, very fulfilled, very satisfied at the end of the day.
